Adenine is a purine with a double-ring structure. In double-stranded DNA, adenine base-pairs with thymine. Guanine is a purine with a double-ring structure. In double-stranded DNA, guanine base-pairs with cytosine. Thymine is a pyrimidine with a single-ring structure. In double-stranded DNA, thymine base-pairs with adenine. Cytosine is a pyrimidine with a single-ring structure. In double-stranded DNA, cytosine base-pairs with guanine. DNA exists as double helix. There were three models for how organisms might replicate their DNA: semi-conservative, conservative, and dispersive. For DNA to replicate three events must occur; Strand separation Complementary base pairing and Nucleotide joining. The semi-conservative model, the two strands of DNA unwind from each other, and each acts as a template for synthesis of a new, complementary strand. This results in two DNA molecules with one original strand and one new strand.
