Facilitated Diffusion - Glucose transport

Transmembrane proteins help solutes that are too polar or too highly charged move through the lipid bilayer The processes involved are: Channel mediated facilitated diffusion Carrier mediated facilitated diffusion In facilitated diffusion, molecules only move with the aid of a protein in the membrane. While, in simple diffusion, molecules move down the concentration gradient but in facilitated diffusion molecules move up the concentration gradient. Glucose transportation is facilitated by a transporter protein. Insulin promotes the production of transporter proteins.
