Double Vacuum Process (Illustration No Audio)

In this so-called low-pressure process, the wood is first subjected to a short and relatively weak initial vacuum, after which the treatment vessel is flooded with preservative solution and reduced to normal pressure The double vacuum container is loaded with timber. A partial vacuum is drawn and maintained for approximately 10 — 15 minutes. While the vacuum is maintained, the vessel is flooded with the Wolvac or Wolsit preservative. The vessel is aerated and returned to atmospheric pressure. The preservative solution penetrates deep into the wood. Usual dipping times are between 5 and 15 minutes. The preservative solution is drained off. A strong final vacuum is applied for between 30 — 45 minutes. The pressure difference between the initial and final vacuums leads to the excess solution being forced out. The vessel is aerated and the treated wood is removed.
